Special Card Trading

Special card trading has a reputation for being confusing, but it is one of the most reliable ways to grow your coin balance. This guide shows you how to read a card's price swings and turn that pattern into steady profit.

Recommended budget 200,000 coins

Keep each card purchase to 10% of your budget or less.

Timing your trades

Peak hours are when the most players are online, typically between 4pm and 8pm UK time. Non peak hours run from around 8pm into the late evening, when far fewer players are trading. The busiest days on Ultimate Team are usually Wednesday to Sunday, with Friday and Saturday seeing the most activity, so weight your trading time toward those days.

Reading a fluctuation

Every special card moves through a low point and a high point on a fairly predictable cycle - buy near the low, sell near the high. There are two ways to work that cycle out.

Method 1: Public graphs

Open the Daily or Hourly graph for a player on FUTBIN, FUTWIZ, or FUT.GG. It is free, but it takes regular checking, and every trader working the same card sees the exact same data you do.

Method 2: Subscriber pricing tables

Search a player's name in our Subscriber Area for filtered, regularly updated buy and sell prices, delivered instantly with no graph reading required.

How to read the graph

Filter a player's graph by platform and switch between the Daily and Hourly view to see how the card's value has moved over the last 24 to 48 hours. That history tells you almost everything you need.

Worked example

On this card the low point sat around 7pm UK time, and the high point showed up around 7am and again in the late evening. A good buying window here was 6pm to 10pm UK time. Watch out for the daily 6pm content drop, since new SBCs, Evolutions, and promos can shift prices without much warning (more on why below).

Buy target

Aim for the low point or one of the next two lowest values on the hourly graph.

Sell target

Aim for the high point or one of the next three highest values on the hourly graph. Remember the 5% EA tax when you set your final price.

Check the "Sold Prices" button on a player's page on FUTWIZ for real recent sales (FUTBIN and FUT.GG show the same data under names like "Sales"). This example card sold for 23,500 coins at its low point and 40,000 coins at its high point (38,000 coins after EA tax). Even selling at the average of 27,500 coins after buying at 23,500 coins clears 2,625 coins of profit after tax, on a single card. Multiply that across ten, twenty, or more special cards at once and the profit adds up fast.

Chemistry Style adds value

Hunter and Shadow are usually the most expensive Chemistry Styles in the game, often costing 2,000 to 5,000 coins to apply. A special card that already has one saves the buyer that cost and the effort of applying it themselves, so it is worth more than the same card without one.

Hunter Chemistry Style Shadow Chemistry Style
Worked example

If a base card is listed between 37,500 and 39,500 coins, price a copy with Hunter or Shadow already applied near the top of that range, or slightly above it. That is often an extra 3,000 to 5,000 coins of profit for no extra work, just patience. This works best on Chemistry Styles worth more than 2,000 coins, mainly Hunter and Shadow. List for 1 hour while you are active and relist regularly, then switch to 12-hour listings when you go offline.

Things to know before you start

A handful of small factors make the difference between guessing and trading with confidence.

Which listing duration should I use?

Listing for 1 hour catches players who buy quickly without much price checking, so you get through more sales in less time. Listing for 12 hours lets a card ride out overnight price swings, often letting it become the cheapest option and sell for more without you needing to relist constantly.

When is the best time to buy during the week?

Prices are usually inflated on Friday and Saturday because Weekend League is live. On Sunday, players sell off their Weekend League squads, so supply rises and demand drops. Cards bought during that dip can often be held until demand returns for the next Weekend League, though new promos or upgraded alternatives can still hurt their value in the meantime.

How do 6pm content drops affect prices?

New SBCs (Squad Building Challenges), Evolutions, and promos release at 6pm UK time most days. Supply jumps as players sell off cards to try something new, which is often a good time to buy since prices tend to recover once the card is rarer to pull, or drops out of packs entirely. If a card gets a brand new version from that day's content, or becomes eligible for a new Evolution, avoid every version of it for at least a 24-hour window while the market settles.

Should I trade cards that look rare but have low demand?

Some special cards look valuable simply because they are hard to find, often due to price fixing or a limited supply tied to SBC solutions, not real demand. That can create a misleading price until more copies reach the market. These cards are not worth avoiding outright, but treat them as higher risk if only a handful are listed within a 24-hour window.

What should I do if my cards are selling slowly?

Trading gets faster and more predictable the more you do it. Stick to the busiest hours where you can, since sales move quicker then, and give slower cards time to sell rather than relisting at a loss out of impatience.

How do I spot Weekend League demand early?

Affordable special cards that fit the game's meta, often ones with strong nationality or league links to popular Weekend League squads and SBCs, tend to jump in price as players build their teams. Learning to spot these early can turn into some of the biggest profits in special card trading.

What should I do with cards that aren't selling from a batch?

Say you buy 20 special cards and sell 16 quickly. For the remaining 4, check the day of the week: near the end of Weekend League, price them to break even after EA tax, or accept a small loss. If you don't need the coins urgently, hold and wait for the next demand wave instead, though that carries its own risk. Either way, any loss should stay small next to what you made on the rest.

How do I factor in the 5% EA tax?

EA takes 5% off every transfer market sale. Sell a card for 32,000 coins and the tax takes 1,600 coins, leaving you with 30,400 coins. Build that into your target sell price before you list, not after.

When should I start trading in bulk?

Once you have had a few successful trades, don't hesitate to buy in larger batches. A few individual cards losing a little coin won't matter once the extra sales add up. Keep your coins working in special cards rather than sitting idle, unless a specific promo or piece of upcoming content is likely to shake the market.

Bidding and sniping filters

These filter examples are a starting point, not the only setup that works. If you don't land a snipe in your first five minutes, that is normal, learning the filter menu takes practice. Fine tune "Max Price" and "Min Buy Now" if a search returns too many or too few results near the 59th minute mark.
